The Day

I did not know it but Monday, December 19th, 2011 was THE DAY.  After 170 days apart, Army paperwork, our plans, and plane tickets fell into place resulting in Kyle finally landing in LAX. Saturday and Sunday Kyle was able to spend quality time with my family.  On Sunday I introduced him to most of my church family at Lighthouse. Sunday evening Kyle went on a long walk  and had a long talk with my Dad. Afterwards all he would tell me was, "It went well." That was code for he had received "permission." And then it was Monday.
It began a little before four a.m when I rolled out of bed, ate breakfast, and jumped into the car headed for the airport. Kyle and I trudged through airports all day long, enjoying our talking time together. Kyle was still suffering from the seventeen hour time difference. Arriving in Ohio, I met Kyle's parents. After months of talking on the phone, it was so neat to finally be able to meet them. Next began the Sushi adventure.
Kyle introduced me to a group of his friends, we climbed into the car and headed off to the Sushi place. I knew that Kyle liked Sushi......A LOT! And.....that texture is everything to me when it comes to liking or not liking foods. I didn't know how this episode would turn out. Kyle ordered for us a "Love Boat." Everyone say, "Aww.....how sweet!"  Not knowing even what sushi truly looked like I was highly curious as to what a "Love Boat" would look like. While waiting for the boat, we had fun sucking pea's out of their pods. So much fun! ......and a little bit more complicated than I had anticipated. :P
After dinner we headed back to the house. My Kyle had told me we were going to go down to the river front to look at Christmas lights after dinner. It was there that he planned to ask me to marry him. Ariana, the only other girl in our group wasn't feeling well. I was really tired and totally clueless. Telling me we would visit the river front at a later date, Kyle like the gentleman that he is decided to abort his original plan. Kyle and I said goodbye to the rest of the group, and we headed towards Kyle's house.
In order to get inside, we had to get into Kyle's truck and use the Garage Door remote to open the garage so we could get into the house. We couldn't find the remote! By this time Kyle was acting really strange and I thought he was kidding about not being able to find the remote. I could see that he was not thinking about finding the remote......and I couldn't figure out why because it was getting really cold!
This whole time Kyle was trying to find out a way to get the ring out of his pocket and get down on one knee without me seeing him. :P I could see the wheels turning in his head but still couldn't figure out what he found so thought consuming. He shut his door, walked around to my side of the truck, handed me the remote and asked me to put it away. I'm thinking, "O......k......... sure!" I put the remote in the truck, then turned towards the house while saying, "Are we going inside now?" Kyle who ended up being behind me replied, "Yes, but their is something I need to do first." I turned around, and there he was with the ring box open in his hand, on one knee. Long story short I said "YES!"
He said, 'Melissa Ann Hubbard, will you marry me?" When I realized what was going on I was so excited all I wanted to do was hug him, so I did, while he was still down on his knee. He put the ring on my finger......and then we went inside. I showed his parents the ring, which they had already seen, and called my parents. lol Daddy was so funny! He said, "You know this doesn't come as a surprise to me!" Thus ended one of the most beautiful days of my life. I will cherish its memory for forever.
